Altamahaw, NC Bill R. Murray, age 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the son of the late Luther Edward Murray, Sr. and Mozelle Hensley Murray. Bill attended Elon University and was a veteran of the US Army. He was employed by A T & T until his retirement. He was an active member of Crossway Church, formerly known as Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church. Bill was an avid golfer and fisherman in his leisure time. He loved spending time with his family and friends and sharing his Christian Faith. Survivors include his sisters, Rachel Murray of Burlington and Shirley Chatman of Graham; brother, Luther Murray Jr. of Graham and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Edward Murray, Sr. and Mozelle Hensley Murray. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Crossway Church in Altamahaw by Pastor Garry Yeatts and assisted by Pastor Howard Thompson. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8p.m. on Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of his sister, Rachel Murray, 2201 Dorsett Street, Burlington, NC 27215. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Bill was a good checker player but we couldn't get him to play in our tournaments, here he is in 2007 at his church festival that included a checker tournament. Bill was the best at Alamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Fall Festival.
